This introductory-level workshop introduces the essential ideas of anti-oppression and anti-racism. It is intended for people who are new to these issues and aims to provide a brave and encouraging environment for learning. Participants will get a fundamental understanding of how to recognize and oppose oppression and racism in their personal and professional lives through a combination of core information and practical insights. The workshop also lays the foundation for continued learning and engagement in this crucial work. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Increased understanding of key terms and concepts associated with oppression, racism, privilege, and discrimination.

  • Increased understanding of the various manifestations of oppression, from the personal to the systemic.

  • Increased understanding of actions one can take to disrupt oppression and foster more compassionate ways of being.

  • Encouraged to actively partake in self-reflection as a strategy to consistently acquire knowledge, develop, and adjust in the pursuit of combating oppression and racism.
