If you google my name you’ll see many articles. The headlines, the articles, the posts, the comments. Although it’s been three years everything on social media is still there. I thought the worst part was the attack itself when on December 4 2017 I was on my way home from work and was taking the skytrain in Vancouver. A man on the train began to verbally assault me telling me he was going to kill me and all muslims. He then tried to sexually assault me and grab my head towards his crotch as he aggressively told me to “Choke on it” the train was packed and no one was responding or saying anything. It wasn’t until the man noticed everyone’s silence that he struck me across the face only then did one person on the end of the skytrain get up and push the man away from me. It gave me time to take my phone out and take a photo of the man.
My story went viral. I decided to go public with it but after thinking that was the hardest moment of my life it was the constant hate I received and continue to receive online through all the articles and headlines and the original post I made. It’s been 3 years but it still feels like yesterday. It’s something only those who have truly gone through it will understand. A story I continue to share in hopes my Trauma will bring real awareness and change. I’ve shared this story many times but it’s one I will continue to share as long as it can be part of a solution and change for the better.
