Seher

"I really do wish that I'd learned a more fluid version of Islam growing up. One that doesn't make you feel guilty." — This is Seher's Story.

As a queer Muslim, Seher wishes that she had learnt a more fluid version of Islam growing up, as opposed to the fear-based version she experienced. The latter is sadly linked to the immigrant experience. "The fear of being in a new country and losing your culture, religion, and everything you believe in.”

Seher believes in practising Islam without expectations and barriers. “I look forward to raising my own kids with a kind Islam, raising them to be generous, to give to their neighbours, to care for the Earth. That’s the Islam that I really look forward to seeing in so many more people as well.”

About the Hate2Healing Campaign
Recognizing the strength of storytelling, CCMW launches a unique Hate2Healing anti-hate social media campaign to mark October’s Islamic Heritage Month. The campaign comprises 15 videos from diverse Muslim women, girls and non-binary people coming together to speak about their lived experiences of hate, racism and Islamophobia. The campaign aims to start the healing and recovery process for many survivors of hate by encouraging them to share their stories and start talking about their experiences both online and offline.
